Arena plan targets aging ice plant at Memorial Arena

He noted a 30 year old ice plant and high energy use, with heating costs and town subsidies totaling about 40 000 annually. Fatal crashes claim two lives on Yellowhead Highway
RCMP investigated two fatal accidents on the Yellowhead between Shoal Lake and Birtle over three days. A Newdale man’s westbound semi struck a minivan near Birtle, killing 7 year old Sharyl Dianne Wiadyka of Souris. drugs and alcohol ruled out and no charges planned. Later, a solo rollover west of Shoal Lake killed 69 year old Genevieve Berezowski of Winnipeg. Continuous investigation ongoing.

Police Report Fire at Bunge Harrowby plant
The Russell RCMP and area fire crews contained an industrial fire at Bunge Canada Harrowby plant after a machine overheated causing product fire. Production halted and workers evacuated as flames were brought under control. No injuries reported.
