McKay to Receive National Service Award for Agriculture Work
Cherokee County agricultural agent Johnnie McKay is named a recipient of the National County Agricultural Agents Association Distinguished Service Award. Nominated by the Texas Association, he is among seven Texans honored and will be recognized at the Texas association meeting in Wichita Falls August 23 and the national awards in Columbus, Ohio September 7 11. McKay is noted for beef cattle education, soil fertility, forage production, forestry work, and pioneering beef performance testing and direct marketing. He has 15 years with the Texas Extension Service and has led forage and soil programs in Cherokee and Panola counties, earning several honors and serving on state 4 H committees. He is a Grand Saline native and active in civic affairs and church community activities.
