New York, Sept 28. George W. Perkins of New York Life and J P Morgan & Co. faced a demand to produce Morgan books to explain dealings with New York Life about navigation syndicate bonds. Perkins offered copies, delaying full book production as committee members pressed for access. Internal checks show 250000 borrowed for syndicate, with 27500 repaid, and significant missing checks yet to be located.
A scuffle with an African American man and Officer Witt led to a knife becoming partly opened. An onlooker pushed the man away before he could strike, and the group collapsed. Witt suffered cuts to three fingers and a badly bruised knee cap with blood poisoning developing in the hand. a physician is treating the condition.
Cairo Illinois September 28 Burglars entered the private bank of C B Burnett Sons at El Dorado wrecked the vault and carried off between eight thousand and ten thousand dollars in currency and gold. Several shots were exchanged with citizens but darkness prevented hits.
Frank Marcaneina, a Brooklyn contractor, reports his six year old son Antonio missing since Sunday. He received letters threatening Black Hand style kidnapping, demanding $500 for the boy’s return, with a promise to send him back in a box if not paid.
