Douthitt Acquitted In Caprock Rancher Murder Case

Lovington New Mexico September 25 A district court jury acquitted Otto Douthitt Caprock rancher of murder charges in the fatal August shooting of Allen Doyal a feud lasting about 20 years. Douthitt surrendered after the incident and had been free on bond awaiting trial. The shooting occurred at a windmill on Douthitt land nine miles south of Caprock Lea County with the trial held in Lovington before Judge James B McGhee.

Men 71 to 35 Must Register for Selective Service

Good Will Trips Most Successful This Year

Brakeman Seriously Injured In Santa Fe Fall

J. E. Wheeler of Carlsbad, a brakeman for the Santa Fe, is in serious condition at St. Mary's hospital after falling from a southbound passenger train at Elkins yesterday morning. His skull was fractured and he has been unconscious since the accident as the train slowed to stop. Wheeler has worked for the Santa Fe for several years.

New Mexico State Fair Honors Indians with Tribal Day

At Albuquerque on September 25 the state fair marked Indian Day with governors and tribal leaders from 19 Pueblo tribes and Navajo groups plus a Hopi delegation. Bands from Santa Fe and Albuquerque Indian schools performed on grandstand and grounds. Free admissions and a noon barbecue accompanied judging of Indian agricultural exhibits and arts.
