In Roswell New Mexico downtown on Saturday beardless men face penalties for being clean shaven. Rules require facial hair for adults on streets with jail or fines possible. A permit can be bought at Denny's or the Roswell Chamber to avoid arrest and fund local Centennial Committee activities.
Chaves County Commissioners held a public hearing to discuss a proposed animal control ordinance drafted by Assistant District Attorney Morris. The plan requires vaccination and licensing of dogs and cats, with disposal of unowned pets and penalties as petty misdemeanors, aiming to address livestock losses from roaming dogs and cats.
Elliott Roosevelt, son of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, agrees to appear before a Senate panel to answer charges he helped arrange the assassination plot against the Bahamas prime minister.

Over 20 antique cars, buckboards, and horse drawn vehicles join 18 school bands and a 62nd Army Band from Ft. Bliss. parade marshal Sonny Bartlett returns, and Main Street will close safely from College Avenue to West McGaffey Street.
