Kohler defeats LaFollette in Wisconsin GOP primary upset

Wisconsin voters nominating Conservative Walter J. Kohler toppled Gov. Philip F. LaFollette in a Republican primary. Kohler led 325,586 to 247,301 as results from 2,236 of 2,899 precincts showed Kohler ahead by 78,285, ending the LaFollette streak for the first time since 1892.

Disbarment of Trader Sought in SRD District

Santa Fe New Mexico reports requested disbarment of Thomas V Trader mayor of Las Vegas and district attorney for the Fourth Judicial district and his assistant Frank T Faircloth. An information filed in the state supreme court charges Trader with using criminal process to further his business interests. Disappearance of city registration books and dismissal of concealment charge against D A Suler provide basis for the counts. Trader and Faircloth face a second count regarding efforts to drop charges against Ray Lindsay in a $10,000 damage suit tied to Lindsay's Colorado death.

Albuquerque, Sept 21 AP reports a system of alleged falsification of bank records hid for years a shortage totaling 75000 dollars in the accounts of 16 former employees of the First Nation Bank. The trial centers on alleged fraudulent entries and uncovering the long concealed deficit.

Seligman Leads With 232 Delegates In New Mexico Gubernatorial Race

At the Santa Fe convention push, Gov Arthur Seligman has 232 instructed votes while John Simms of Albuquerque holds 5. Only 10 of 31 counties have held conventions. Eddy Lincoln McKinley Mora Roosevelt San Juan and Torrance send uninstructed delegations. Lea aligned 12 with Seligman and 20 with Quay. Chaves instructed for Simms with 25 delegates. The final assessed valuation of Chaves county for 1932 is $15,969,462, announced by county assessor Woodlaw Saunders. This marks a reduction of $279,991 from the 1931 valuation of $16,249,453.

Publisher sued for 2925 dollars in Eddy county court

W E Wheeler of Carlsbad has filed suit in Eddy county court against the New Mexico Publishing Co publishers of the Roswell Dispatch and other New Mexico newspapers claiming 2925 dollars for the sale of the Cavern City Chronicle a Carlsbad newspaper to the New Mexico publisher.

The Chaves County Democratic Convention endorsed Judge John F. Simms of Albuquerque for the Democratic nomination for Governor. The meeting elected Paul G. Schultz chair man and Mrs. Roy Daniel vice chair man, with Woodlaw P. Saunders reelected secretary and J. F. Hinkle treasurer. Delegates to the state Democratic central committee were H. M. Dow J. C. Five Roswell men on the Eastern New Mexico Area Council Boy Scouts of America executive board will attend a Clovis meeting tomorrow. Members include George Jewetl Major L. B. A Scout leader training course begins in Clovis next Monday lasting all week with area executive Thorson remaining for the training and not returning to Roswell until a week from next Monday.

Mexican Boy Scout Troop to Register Next Week

The Mexican Boy Scout troop formed two months ago will register with the national headquarters next week. It has held eight consecutive meetings since Monday night and now comprises 13 scouts, most of whom have passed Tenderfoot requirements. Elfego Lucero serves as scoutmaster.

Candidate Cox Stranded With Campaign Tour in Tucumcari

Father James R. Cox, Pittsburgh, on the jobless ticket for President, was stranded in Tucumcari with 10 companions as funds ran out. He said Dr. Victor Tisdal, his vice presidential candidate, would send a plane to fetch him for a conference in Pittsburgh, while others stayed to raise more money and continue the car tour.

Hoover to Speak in Des Moines for First Re election Appeal

President Hoover will deliver his first direct campaign appeal to voters in Des Moines Iowa on Tuesday evening October 4. He will travel to and from the capital with no other addresses en route. Enrollment at Roswell public schools fell to 2423 by the end of the second week, down from 2574 at the end of last year’s first month. The drop is partial but its full amount remains uncertain, with figures showing junior and senior high counts and ongoing revisions.

Appointments to be Made at New Mexico Conference

The New Mexico Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South meets October 20 to 23 in Roswell with Bishop Sam R. Hay presiding. About 200 attendees are expected including presiding bishops from five districts, 40 lay delegates, ministers, and visitors from Dallas Nashville and Louisville. Sessions and preaching will occur at Roswell Church with ministers reporting on the year’s work and plans for the coming year. The visiting preachers and delegates will be housed in private homes. no entertainment plans have been finalized yet.
