Appraisers Urged to Elevate Role in Savings and Loan

Dan D Swearingin Albuquerque real estate appraiser told about 300 officials at the 47th annual New Mexico savings and loan convention in Roswell that appraisal is the cornerstone of a sound operation. He urged adequate time data and education for inspective analysis and cited a skit to highlight the issues. Willam Prather of Chicago presented inflation and policy concerns and noted the eight point program to aid small savers. He warned of legal battles from pension reform and said most recent lawsuits have been won, citing six common charges in the cases.

IPAA President to Speak on Oil Tax Proposals in Roswell

IPAA president C John Miller will address area independents at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Roswell Country Club on congressional actions harming oil and gas producers. Miller, from Allegan Michigan, returns from a Washington meeting with 180 independents urging rejection of punitive tax ideas that would raise taxes by over two billion dollars.

Mrs Smith Declares Chairman Title For RNC

In Albuquerque after a fundraising dinner, Mary Louise Smith insisted she should be called chairman of the Republican National Committee, not chairwoman. Joe Skeen, the gubernatorial candidate, stumbled in introducing her until she clarified the point and affirmed the title.

In-House Construction Bid Rules Adopted by New Mexico Commission

The New Mexico Highway Commission in Roswell approved a Task Force recommendation to cap in house construction without bids. Projects over 100000 require commission review to decide on bids or use highway materials and staff. Under 100000, work stays with highway district forces without contract. Commissioners present included Schwartzman Towle Armijo Martin and Chaney. The commission also backed a request from A W Hess to aid access road design for the International Space Hall of Fame in Alamogordo. A joint powers agreement with NM Military Institute was deferred. No speed limit changes. Contract awards to be announced Friday at 10 am in Santa Fe.

Ford Fails Move to Delay Federal Worker Raises

The Senate rejected President Ford’s plea to delay 5.5 percent pay raises for 3.5 million federal workers for three months by a vote of 64 to 10. The raises will take effect Oct. 1 as scheduled, despite Ford’s order being overturnable by Congress. This marks his first major defeat in Congress since Aug. 9.

Eastern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo Opens Soon Parade

The 2nd annual Eastern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo runs Sept 24 28 with a grand parade on Tuesday at 10 am featuring a 1930 Mack Hook and Ladder Fire Truck the 12th U.S. Air Force Band and Tactical Air Command and a Bicentennial flag ceremony at the Chaves County Courthouse. Open booths include FFA 4 H and educational displays with horse shows English and Western slated for the final days.
