A local team secured a decisive baseball victory yesterday afternoon in a strong performance. Players delivered key hits and solid defense to edge their opponent, earning praise from coaches and fans.
The Roswell town team beat the New Mexico Military Institute Cadets 4 to 2 in 11 innings on the institute grounds. Kennedy pitched for Roswell with 16 strikeouts, while Hester allowed nine hits and struck out nine for the Cadets. A three bagger by Douglas and a late score by Wilson sealed the win in the 11th. The two sides are set to play again at the Roswell fair with a $50 purse for the winning team.
The Roswell Grand Lodge hosts a Knights of Pythias gathering next year with local members and officers scheduled to participate in the event at the lodge facilities.
At Albuquerque New Mexico the wool growers convention opened with six hundred delegates. Governor Hagerman addressed the gathering stressing the need for organized sheepmen to protect interests. Dr J M Wilson and other western stockmen will speak tomorrow. Baseball and horse races highlight the fair as Las Vegas hosts Globe Arizona with Las Vegas leading 2 0. The event is hailed as a guaranteed success and the greatest in the association’s history.
Paul P. Gurney owner and O E Montgomery agent arrived from Alexandria Ohio with 173 fine bucks valued at 6000 dollars to be sold to Chaves county breeders and wool growers.
Washington reports the mint bought 200000 ounces of fine silver, split evenly for the Denver and New Orleans facilities, at 68.35 cents per ounce.
Book covers and candy accompany school book purchases at Inger Soll's Book Store. Father Herbert departed early this morning for Stanton Texas on church business.

Manila September 19 Captain Ira L. Fredenhall of the quartermasters department was charged in the court of first instance with misappropriation of public funds. Investigations led by Generals Corbin and Wood disclosed padded pay rolls and grafting in leasing of lighters.
President G A Richardson of the Roswell Commercial Club received a telegram from A Foltz in Bartlesville I T reporting about the Pecos Valley exhibit car. It estimated six thousand visitors in the valley today and notes 24 people started for the valley from Roswell this morning amid much enthusiasm.
A Walton's Studio East window features a fine display titled Girls From Paris showcasing French color types. The exhibit highlights elegant wardrobes and dainty textiles emphasizing Parisian fashion influences for local spectators.
The James town Exposition notes a coincidence in iron and flour history. In 1619 the London Company sent 150 iron workers under Mr. King to Jamestown. They opened mines near Falling Creek and spent about 200000 dollars, producing good iron and fostering Warwick village near the James River. The settlement prospered for three years.
H. R. Morrow returned this morning as J. E. Rhea of Bovina and C. E. Witherspoon of Hereford passed through on their way home from Toyah. They invested $31,000 more in land for the Pickard Land Company, near its existing Toyah holdings where they are stockholders.

St. Petersburg report says General Trepoff died last Saturday and was buried today at Peterhof without the emperor in attendance. In Warsaw, General Nicholaieff of the artillery was assassinated by revolutionists as he walked, five men firing and fleeing the scene.
The Des Moines carries Secretary Taft and Assistant Secretary Bacon to Havana where they meet Cuban Secretary of State O Farrell and President Palma. U S envoys report a rough understanding but New York outlets say no immediate Cuban accord will emerge. A separate note mentions a Roswell church dinner on Sept 22 with a large menu.
