Roswell offices close for city manager's death

Roswell city offices except emergency services shut at noon in honor of Hoyt E. McMinn 71 who died Saturday. Graveside services set at 2 p.m. in Carlsbad Cemetery. McMinn led Carlsbad 35 years before moving to Roswell in 1964.

New Mexico Highway Commissioners Meet For Sessions And Barbecue

Road meets set as New Mexico State Highway Commission will hold executive and public sessions Wednesday and Thursday in Roswell. Chrysler UAW Reach 14 Hour Overtime Limit Plan

Detroit AP reports Chrysler Corp and the United Auto Workers tentatively agree to a three year contract. A weekly 14 hour mandatory overtime limit and retirement with full company paid pension after 30 years are key terms. If ratified by 117000 production workers, the agreement ends the nation’s first major industrial strike of 1973. The strike began when the old contract expired at midnight Friday. The deal includes cost of living adjustments and company paid dental insurance.

First bale ginned in Artesia area

The Artesia Alfalfa Growers Association gin at Atoka processed the first bale of cotton in the area at about 5 p.m. Monday. Ed Kissinger, an area farmer, brought in the 1517-V type bale weighing 502 pounds gross, announced AAGA manager Bill Cook.

Senate eyes pension plan guarantees amid two reform proposals

A compromise proposal merges two pending bills to set national pension standards for 34 000 plans, insure funds, and allow vesting at 5 5 10 year intervals to reach full 100 percent vesting after 15 years. The measure aims to assure benefits for about 40 million workers and includes an insurance program for bankrupt employers.
