Police raid 12 guerrilla safe houses in San Salvador uncovering weapons and documents but finding no trace of Ines Guadalupe Duarte Duran, the 35 year old kidnapped daughter of President Jose Napoleon Duarte. No word on her whereabouts since Tuesday afternoon.
Moncor Bank NA of Roswell closed Thursday due to insolvency and reopens today as First National Bank of Chaves County, a Rio Grande Bancshares subsidiary. The OCC gave final charter approval and about 24 million in former Moncor assets moved to the new bank.
The Soviet spymaster Oleg Gordievski defected to Britain after being named head of the KGB office in London. He identified 25 agents to be expelled and was granted asylum, described by Foreign Secretary Sir Geoffrey Howe as a substantial coup. Danish Justice Minister Erik Ninn-Hansen said Gordievski had been a double agent since the 1970s.
In Viseu Portugal rescuers freed injured passengers and recovered at least 49 bodies after a head on collision between an express train and a local train. More than 100 were hurt as trains carrying migrant workers to France collided near the town. Both trains were diesel powered and traveling over 40 mph.

Chaves County Commission approved drafting a resolution to fund a rural addressing project estimated at 137000 dollars. The mile marker based system aims to improve locating rural sites for businesses government and emergency services by October 1987 with completion in 17 months. Mountain Bell assists in forming a county wide grid while New Mexico State University handles mapping and training. The panel also moved to buy Fisk Bulging property for future expansion and discussed courthouse space concerns due to population growth.
