Health funding shifts threaten Indigent support for Chaves County
State proposed SCP funding formulas would split between higher Medicaid reimbursement and the UC Pool, reducing UC Pool funds and risking loss of Indigent support for local providers. County managers warn hospitals like University Hospital and Superior Ambulance could see cuts, while La Casa may rely on $750,000 extra tax revenue to cover claims. Montano warns Indigent loss could jeopardize clinic viability. Undocumented and nonresidents would still rely on UC Pool for coverage, preventing public health risks from untreated diseases. Lovelace seeks streamlined UC Pool access amid $82.5 million in uncompensated claims nationally. ENMMWC monitors developments with no further comment.
