Trains Part II Railroad Will Change Life

A three volume draft environmental impact statement on the Star Lake Railroad and coal mines in northwest New Mexico predicts social disruption from migrant influx, culture clashes, and boomtown dynamics. It forecasts 44 percent regional population growth by 1990, 1 865 new housing units, 1 580 school children, and 7 000 more vehicles, with limited environmental impact apart from 28 000 acres disturbed and possible water-table effects from underground sources.
