United States railroad labor board says there is every reason to believe the rail strike planned for October 20 will be averted. Officials call on the public to avoid loose talk as both sides work in good faith to solve the dispute.
Conflicting dispatches from New York Paris and European capitals report former Emperor Karl of Hungary fleeing asylum in Switzerland with five thousand followers to attack the Hungarian government. Some say Budapest fell or Karl was assassinated while others say the defense holds. Paris circles consider exile to the United States as a possible outcome with a decision due Wednesday.
Chicago report wires say Warren G Spurgin former president of the Michigan Avenue Trust Co stole a million dollars and killed himself in a Miami hotel. His wife and daughter identified the body of a man called C Hayden believed to be Spurgin. Hayden was found with a bullet wound and a pistol in his hand identified as Spurgin’s by W F Bennett of Miami.
Emma Richardson Burkett of Hillsdale Indiana was sentenced to six months to three years in the penitentiary for forging Theodore Roosevelt's name on fake notes. She alleged Roosevelt borrowed funds for his 1912 campaign and produced the forged notes to back the claim.
Washington reports 60 430 children ages 7 to 13 in New Mexico with 52 829 or 87 4 percent attending school. Attending rates for ages 14 15 reach 80 4 percent and 16 17 reach 50 6 percent, up from 1910. Grover C Cottingham and GC M Farnsworth return from a brief business trip to Carlsbad.
Paris, Oct. 24. A panic swept the American embassy as a hatless, unkempt man carrying an oil skin wrapped package approached the entrance. Police arrested Joseph Mikaelo, a touring pedestrian, who said he sought Ambassador Herrick’s autograph. The package held an autograph book. The communist demonstration planned for Sunday failed to materialize.
In San Antonio Texas on October 24 the district court postponed the legal contest over the estate of millionaire philanthropist Geo W Brackenridge until December 5 due to the absence of one of the executors' attorneys.

In Tucumcari New Mexico Boss Jackson Brent Cosner and Texas Jack Lewis faced a preliminary hearing over the death of Roy Lackey a rancher from Rana. Lackey was found shot October 4 and was last seen with the three men as authorities claimed.
Victoria B C reports the British Columbia game conservation board offers hunters $100 monthly salary plus $40 to $55 bounty per cougar. At one cougar per day this could total about 1200 dollars monthly, attracting big game hunters to Vancouver Island.
A complaint filed in justice court by Felix Burrows charges Freeman Marsh with shooting a dog within three hundred yards of an inhabited house. The dog shooting case is set for a late afternoon court session.

Workers appear to be following leaders hands off policy as freight trains ran Sunday manned by men while armed guards patrolled property. In Houston railroad officials strike breakers and union workers are all on the job the only switch engine operating in the local yards with firemen and engineer being union men and switchmen and brakemen as strike breakers.
Mrs Jo Jacobson has purchased the rear half of the American Legion lot for 2500 and will start a three story brick and concrete apartment building with roof garden and pavilion. The project aims to provide a modern up-to-date residence and has the support of Roswell business leaders.
