Inmates set fire to maximum security building at Oklahoma State Penitentiary
Maximum security prisoners seized two guards and opened a fire at The Rock building in McAlester. Director Russell Lash narrowly avoided capture as guards and emergency units retook the area. the blaze destroyed the structure, with no injuries reported.

Rodeo rider killed by bull in Amarillo tragedy
Lester Harrellson, 27, of University Park New Mexico, was trampled after being thrown from a 2000 pound bull during a university rodeo. He died later at an Amarillo hospital. Four men and two women were shot to death in an attempted holdup at Donna Lee Bakery New Britain Connecticut. Six victims died from shotgun blasts in the store, a mobile bulletin sought four men driving a 1968 69 green Pontiac, and the holdup occurred between 8 and 8 45 pm.
