AP reports Jim Mollison and Amy Johnson led the London to Melbourne MacRobertson race as dawn broke. Dutch team K D Parmentier and J J Moll trailed in second with other contenders including M M Asjes and G L Geysendorfer, and Col Roscoe Turner with Clyde Pangborne in pursuit. As dusk, nineteen fliers pursued new speed records toward the Orient from Mildenhall Air Drome.

Mrs Seth Named State President Of New Mexico Clubs

Mrs. J. O. Seth of Santa Fe was elected president of the New Mexico Federation of Women’s Clubs after Mrs. A. H. De Long withdrew. Santa Fe was chosen as the 1935 convention city, with other officers to be announced at a luncheon.

NRA reports back wage payments in New Mexico

Santa Fe AP reports the NRA office collected 815 dollars in back wages for about 70 complainants with payments ranging from 85 cents to 1196 dollars. Rona Hanna, director, said she will audit Roswell and Albuquerque prior to adding a FERA field adjuster as part of NRA duties.

Mexican Badly Hurt In Wreck

Three Mexicans including Frank Sanchez and Mr and Mrs Pete Lusoya suffered severe cuts when a Ford Model T collided with another near Virginia and Hendricks around two this afternoon. The car they rode in rolled over and all were rushed to St Marys hospital by Talmage ambulance. Sanchez is feared to be in serious condition. The other car occupants were not identified but were not believed to be badly hurt.

Fire at South Carolina Penitentiary damages shops

Columbia S C Oct 20 AP fire of undetermined origin gutted a building at the state penitentiary and damaged several nearby structures. The old federal building housed the automobile repair, carpenter, and paint shops. No prisoners were quartered in the structure and losses were pegged between 15 000 and 20 000 dollars.
