Administration of Co Federal Relief Fund Agreed On

Representatives from eight relief organizations and three towns formed a committee to direct federal funds for direct relief in Chaves county. The group will meet Friday at 2 30 PM at the Chamber of Commerce to perfect its organization. About 90 400 in federal funds has already been received with an additional 10 000 available for administration.

Winter Coming to Southwest Rain or Snow

A brisk winter air spread through New Mexico with snow in higher ranges near Albuquerque and Gallup, while lower areas saw light flurries and smoke drifting from chimneys. Roswell was warm yet windy, Santa Fe had a flurry, and Albuquerque’s temperature fell to 55 with an unsettled forecast for rain or snow in the northwest and north central parts.

Santa Fe reports that auditors from the comptroller's office have been sent to Santa Rosa to start an audit of Guadalupe County. Nabb, assistant state comptroller, announced the action on October 18. The move follows routine procedures to ensure financial accountability in the county government.

Lower sugar rates to New Mexico cut announced

Albuquerque, Oct. 18 AP Low fares on California sugar shipments to New Mexico points were unveiled by James V. Stewart Santa Fe railroad traveling freight and passenger agent. Rates drop from 84 cents to 63 cents per hundred to Albuquerque and El Paso, 73 cents to Las Vegas 68 cents to Santa Fe and 78 cents to Raton with effect likely within 30 days.

Trial of four in baseball pools case in Albuquerque

Coolidge Asked to Speak Twice for Hoover Campaign

Officials of the Republican national committee have asked Former President Calvin Coolidge to deliver two more campaign addresses for Hoover. One speech would be in Chicago on an undetermined date and the other would be a last minute radio appeal. George Akerson said the requests were sent to Coolidge in Northampton, Massachusetts, with no reply yet. Coolidge spoke in New York last week.

State Game Dept Plants 48300 Fish in Lakes

The New Mexico game department and federal hatcheries cooperated to plant 48300 fish in state lakes during summer. Elliott Barker, state game warden, said most fish were bass with one load of bluegill, carried in fifteen truck loads to lakes in Chaves Eddy Rio Arriba counties and Elephant Butte Lake and nearby irrigation ditches.

Hunters urged to return for New Mexico big game season

The New Mexico state game department mailed letters to out of state hunters who came here last year. The notices invite them back for the big game season running from October 25 to November 1. State game warden Elliott Barker said many inquiries had been received about the deer and bear season and the letters explain the date changes and provide wildlife information.

Lea County Crude Oil Price Up in Lea County

James F. Hinkle advised that Lea County New Mexico crude oil price rose from 65 cents to 75 cents per barrel effective Saturday October 15. Shell set the increase across its West Texas wells except Yates field with a slight local drop. The rise aims to aid the regional oil industry. other Lea County producers’ actions were not yet known.

Hust and Klechter murder trial resumes in district court

The Hust and Kechter trial, involving Dr. Br. Kl. Hust of Albuquerque and Harry Kechter of Santa Fe on murder and criminal abortion charges, resumed this afternoon after a second interruption due to illness. Juror Manuel Steven, who fell ill yesterday, has recovered enough to report for duty. The trial had been halted for a week previously because of illness among jurors and attorneys.

Boy Scout Drive Funds Need Larger Campaign

Up to three o'clock this afternoon $1,028 was raised in Chaves county for the Boy Scout financial campaign. Chairman J. B. Savage urges everyone to support the drive to fund the coming year’s Scout program. All funds are spent prudently. Scout camps are funded by the Scouts themselves. Hoover to speak Saturday on radio networks

Republican headquarters announced that President Hoover will address Detroit Saturday night. NBC and Columbia networks will carry the broadcast between 7:30 and 8:30 p m eastern. Secretary Ogden Mills will speak from Baltimore from 7 to 7:30 p m eastern on the national system.

Dillon Receives a Great Welcome in Roswell

Former governor Richard CG Dillon and party arrived to a great welcome in Roswell this afternoon. About thirty automobile loads of supporters and a band escorted them into town on the west highway. Dillon and other party members will speak at a Republican rally at the Junior High School tonight.
