Old Pickering House Burned Near Main Street
A six room frame house built about 1900, owned by C. H. Monk, burned last night about a mile east of Main Street on College Boulevard. Fire, likely from defective wiring, developed quickly, omitting occupants. R. J. McClenny reported the glow at 8:15 and attempted entry but walls collapsed before firemen arrived. No water supply was available. the structure was a total loss.

Encouraging Sins Compton Well Near Roswell
The Emerson Number 1 oil well of the Compton Oil Company of Artesia, two miles north of Roswell, was down 1460 feet Saturday with encouraging signs. A complete war shut-off occurred at 1300 feet a week earlier. Drilling paused Sunday but resumed this morning under R. D. Compton's report.

Two Shot ESR At HoldUp At Mountainair
Albuquerque dispatch says Mountainair night watchman James C. Blakeley and burglar James Walker were wounded in a Saturday gunfight. Blakeley, shot through the left lung, and Walker paralyzed from the waist after a bullet lodged near his spine. Walker was one of three attackers. he and another fled as Blakeley opened fire. The other two suspects remain at large after a weekend-wide search failed to locate them.

Russellville Kentucky October 17 AP Federal and county officers sought more details on a pistol fight that killed a federal prohibition investigator and a Logan county special deputy sheriff in a negro cabin late Saturday night. Frank A. Mather 49 prohibition investigator based in Louisville and Blach Soyars 57 superintendent of Russellville Waterworks and deputy sheriff were the principals. Soyars died an hour later and Mather Sunday morning. A private hearing ruled the officers killed each other, with no others firing.
