Chicago October 15 unions threaten a general railroad strike as two million workers face a wage cut proposal of ten percent for skilled labor and twenty five percent for unskilled. Five hundred general chairmen meet to decide plans and a walkout is being mapped. Strike call expected for October 30.
President Harding personally joined a conference at the Interstate Commerce Commission to adjust railroad rates and wages. He assembled public officials, railroad leaders, and labor board members to seek a broad, industry revival oriented solution.
Battery A of the 1st Field Artillery plans an encampment at Fort Bliss Texas with muster at the Artillery Gun Sheds at 3 PM and departure to the depot at 4 45 PM. Football games scheduled with 82nd Field Artillery Army All Star team of Fort Bliss and Calumus club El Paso. Captain McCullough says arrangements completed and care assured.

The City of Chicago’s ten million dollar libel suit against the Chicago Tribune was dismissed by Circuit Judge Harry M. Fisher. The judge sustained the Tribune’s demurrer citing constitutional freedom of the press. The suit claimed Tribune statements about the city’s bankruptcy and financial status harmed bond dispositions.
Five suspects are held over the Lipson murder and Tregoning shooting in Chicago. Dr. Paul Lipson of St Paul’s Sanitarium was killed during a south side drugstore hold up after he attempted to summon help. A bandit then shot George Tregoning as he drove by.
Beaumont Texas October 15 The grand jury assigned to investigate Chapter Seven of the Ku Klux Klan is expected to recess after six days of inquiry into the tar and feathering of Dr J S Paul and R F Scott Dr Paul who had defied the Klan by returning to town left his barricaded home yesterday to testify before the panel He was attacked last May as part of the Klan incident
In Council Bluffs Iowa on October 15 two men were killed and two seriously wounded when railroad workers and police clashed with a band of alleged box car thieves during an attempted house search. The confrontation turned deadly as gunfire erupted.

Dexter today is proud of a new two story school building with fourteen rooms a basement and large assembly hall. The N M M I cadets beat West Texas Normalites at home by 19 to 10. Bowyer scored two second quarter touchdowns after a 40 yard catch and a punt return. Burson and Mitchell connected on several passes, and Jenkins kicked a 30 yard field goal in the last quarter before Godfrey sealed the win with a late score.
The West Texas normal football team returned to Canyon Texas last night after a game with the Cadets. The Texas boys earned high credit for their performance and showed impressions of Roswell leading to a possible return match later this season. A large Roswell crowd, estimated two to three thousand, attended an elaborate Indian pageant along the Berreary river shores. The Federated P T A and Berendo P T A organized, with 300+ participants, extensive ceremonial dances, and electrical effects, highlighted by tepees, a campfire, and Indian crafts.
Chicago dispatch reports railroad union leaders left the city with secret orders directing all officials to begin a general strike on October 30. The move signals coordinated action across the railway system.
Roswell High School trounced Clovis 25 to 0 in the first game of the season. Roswell led 19 to 0 at halftime as all three phases clicked with four touchdowns, led by Mac Fyffe and a strong backfield including Skeen, Kelly, Rector, and Jones. Portales and Albuquerque games follow.
A blaze that began in a furniture store around 10 PM destroyed two business blocks on the northwest square corner and extended into the nearby residences in Paris Texas. Seventeen homes burned with no injuries reported. the loss is estimated at about one million dollars.
E. A. Cahoon, president of the First National Bank, returned from Ft. Worth where he attended a conference of bankers, stockmen and business men seeking loans for southwest livestock operators. Bucks Funeral Yesterday. The funeral of Mrs. J. A. Rucks was held at South Park with Rev. Sidney M. Bedford officiating. Mrs. Rucks died at St. Mary's hospital of tuberculosis.
