In Chicago on October 14, railroad unions announced a planned strike starting October 30 if wage and working conditions talks fail to reopen. The union leaders outlined a staged plan across ten groups, with two million workers potentially leaving their posts if negotiations do not resume.
Chicago October fourteenth. The United States railroad labor board rejected executives’ petition to shift all shop workers to piece work. Northwestern Railroad and others had pressed for abolishing straight time. Board ruled workers must be paid hourly with an eight hour day.
Gatesville Texas October 14 J B McDonald former accountant at the Gatesville training school appeared before the board of control and praised the institution management He demanded admission to the hearing claiming he was a San Antonio paper correspondent and entitled to attend.
Austin Oct 14 Testimony in the Red River boundary dispute will be taken in Austin beginning October 18 before Commissioner Frederick S Tyler. Texas will present its case first. H P Saunders returned from Los Angeles where he attended the American Bankers Association convention and spoke about a positive business outlook nationwide.
In Gilmer Texas on October 14 cashier N J Simmons of the Ashland State Bank is jailed on embezzlement charges after claiming a lone bandit robbed the bank of about three thousand dollars Simmons later admitted to the bank examiner and sheriff that he borrowed the funds and burned eleven hundred dollars to hide the crime
Oklahoma City news notes gasoline price increases to twenty one cents effective Monday at Drew-Levic Filling Stations. Also mentions a big football game at Thorne Park between N. M. M. I. and West Texas Normal and an ad for plumber’s labor rates.
In New York on October 14 the bootleggers feud flared as gunmen hunted for the slayer of Diamond Joe Peppe. Peppe, who made a fortune smuggling rum, was shot in Little Italy and a bystander was killed by a stray bullet.
A blaze of unknown origin destroyed the Rose Wilson Motor Co in Dallas wrecking thirty five automobiles and accessories. Loss estimated at one hundred thousand dollars.

Property owners added curb and guttering, and the completed street will reflect the pride of residents. It began as an experiment, with expectations other streets may follow. Leaves for Santa Fe indicate Dr. and Mrs. A. D. Crile and daughter will spend several days there. A help-wanted notice seeks roomers and board at 809 N. Rich for $35 per month.

Farmers publish for a big Farm Bureau Day tomorrow at East Grand Plains school house. The event runs from 10 a.m. with corn and cotton judging, talks on corn and cotton, a president’s address, a boys baseball game, and juvenile band music. Families bring dinners. coffee and supplies provided.
Red Free booters led from the first period and held the lead to defeat Yellow Free booters 10 to 0 at Institute field last Thursday. Pool or Alexander sparked the victory with dazzling runs, Halff also brill iant in support. Prager and Lewis represented Yellow well, while science enthusiasts should improve subs for future clashes. Regular Science and Luck teams meet next Sunday at two p m for a blood fight. Roswell is reminded of the hour.

The Rotary club and the Advertising club, guests at the Roswell Public Service Company electric plant, toured the facility yesterday noon. Carl Hinhart and officials explained the plant’s machinery, oil-fired boiler system, and the Roswell cotton gin, showcasing local industry and the value of continuous power.
C C Hill returned yesterday afternoon from the northern county where he visited several schools. He reports all in good condition except the road between this city and Acme.
