Mule-O-Rama Race Draws 200 Entries
More than 200 mules compete at Gateway Meadows in Ruidoso Downs for the second annual three day Mule-O Rama. Ten races daily Friday through Sunday offer purses from 100 to 1000 dollars and feature entrants from nine states. The event includes a 330 yard top race with four named mules and a $20,000 prize, plus a hide race with TV stars Dan Haggerty and Don Shanks challenging the mayor and Fern Sawyer. An auction of over 90 mules and a fiddlers contest round out the program with music by the Original Bob Wills Boys and Leon Selph.
