Purple Heart Presented to Parents of War Hero Bennie West
Marine Cpl. Bennie L. West 20 was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart in a ceremony at his home. West died Sept 1 at Con Tien Vietnam when a North Vietnamese rocket struck his bunker. He served in Mortar Battery 1-12, 12th Marine Division after enlisting in 1966. He attended Roswell High School and enjoyed horse racing with the Jockeys Guild. He also earned the National Defense Service Medal the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. His father Brisco West said his son believed in the cause. West is survived by his parents at 1714 N Kentucky.
