Famed surgeon J L Simpson sentenced in New Mexico murder case

J L Simpson of Lea county was sentenced to eight to ten years in the state penitentiary for manslaughter in the July 26 fatal shooting of Oscar Adams of Tatum. He plans to appeal to the state supreme court. The conviction followed a lengthy jury deliberation after venue was moved from Lea county. Simpson said Adams attacked him with a knife prior to the shooting amid a fight with Simpson's hired hand Dorris Hart on a main street in Tatum.

Lane liquor law to be issued by local districts in state

Albuquerque officials will issue all licenses and permits under the Lane liquor law through local option districts, except transportation permits. The state liquor control board advised a new set of regulations, and eleven forms will be printed by the city soon to receive applications and issue permits. The regulations apply to all residents of the state in local option areas.

MASSED STRIKERS DISPERSED BY NATIONAL GUARD AT CAMP

A mob of about 200 strikers in Gallup New Mexico faced dispersal by national guardsmen after marching toward a military camp to demand eight leaders and a newcomer. A seven year old girl was alleged to be trampled during the melee and a striker was arrested for defying orders. The march was led by Martha Roberts auxiliary leader of the National Miners Union.

Plan to install Roosevelt as dictator panned in Philadelphia raid

Police seized loaded pistols knives and clubs during raids on three Khaki Shirts of America headquarters as about 200 supporters mobilized for a march on Washington. Appreciation for LEA LAKE PURCHASE FUND donors

A Roswell area committee thanks individuals firms and corporations for contributions to the LEA LAKE PURCHASE FUND for the State Park at Bottomless Lakes east of Roswell. The pledged funds cover the amount needed to obtain title to the lake and land. The Roswell Newspapers receive special thanks for money and publicity.
