Balloons Fill Duke City Sky at International Fiesta Opener

About 200 balloons rose at Simms Field for Albuquerque sixth annual International Balloon Fiesta opening. Highland High School girls drill team attended with world champion Paul Woessner Jr. and NBC crew. A single incident saw a balloon land near a shopping center with a lamp pole entanglement. Hang glider pilots rode single balloons aloft. After the mass ascent, balloonists joined the State Fairgrounds parade.

Soviets fail docking with Salyut-6 space station

Cosmonauts Vladimir Kovalenok and Valery Ryumin could not link up with the Salyut-6 orbiting lab and prepared to return to Earth aboard Soyuz-25 after just over a day in orbit.
