Senate investigators plan to open hearings led by Nathan Shefferman a Chicago consultant on labor problems to probe antiunion activities by some employers. The probe forms part of a broader inquiry into labor management clashes amid calls for tighter oversight.
A car driven by Ted C. Glass plowed into a hayride party in front of 400 N. Atkinson, killing Bonnie Bledsoe about 57 and injuring seven others. Sgt. Archie Pope and his wife were seriously hurt. others named include Norman Corzine Joel Wasson Connie Johnson and Dovey McShan among the injured.

RN Joan Nolan attended the mother at the hospital. The Auxiliary gave a gift of B 29 diapers.
Roswell City Schools begin a hearing conservation program using the Sweep Test with an Audiometer. The Roswell Assistance League will aid, trained by Virginia Mellencamp. Initial focus is sixth graders with follow ups and nurse referrals if needed.

Eight lieutenant governors were named including Ken Clark Santa Fe Walter McNutt Albuquerque Lionel C Cox Hobbs and F E Atkinson Las Cruces.
Russia claims an artificial moon broadcast at 40 megacycles has not interfered with Roswell Police radio at 39.9. A Bangor Maine skip was heard this morning, showing a radio quirk linking Bangor to Roswell.
Six people died in New Mexico crashes described by the Associated Press. A pickup overturned near Gallup killed a 28 year old man identified as Charles Ward of Two Wells, while driver Ben Thomas and passenger Billy Chee, both of Two Wells, were uninjured. Other fatal incidents occurred near Lovington and Bloomfield, with victims including Juana Herrera 28 Pedro Herrera six months and Ray Stork 29, among others. The state highway toll reached 323 for the year with multiple injuries reported in Roswell and Farmington incidents.
