Cattle Deaths Spur Eddy County Task Force
Eddy County Sheriff Mark Cage reports about 12 cattle shooting deaths this year and forms a task force. The Aug 1 case at 634 Angel Ranch Road near Artesia left six cattle dead at two properties. A high caliber rifle was used within half a mile of two residences. The vast 5000 square mile county and dispersed ranchers complicate investigations.

Las Vegas gunman Paddock linked to quiet Nevada retirement life
Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock lived in Mesquite a tranquil Nevada retirement community as a wealthy real estate investor. He reportedly sent his 90-year-old mother a walker and enjoyed high stakes video poker. Authorities and family offered little motive for the Mandalay Bay attack that killed at least 59 and wounded about 530 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.
