Ainsworth Siblings Sweep Fat Calf Honors at ENMSF Show

Carol and Mack Ainsworth of Portales led fat calf judging at the 1965 Eastern New Mexico State Fair opening events. Carol's 825-pound Hereford won Grand Champion and Champion Hereford, with Mack's 830-pound Hereford named Reserve Champion. Auction set for Saturday at 7 a.m. in the Junior Livestock Sale.

Horse Show Attracts 50 Competitors

Over 50 youths compete in the Junior Horse Show at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair today and Saturday. Early results list winners in showmanship, stock seat equitation, western pleasure, reined stock horse, and barrel race across several age groups with multiple names named as top finishers.

Roswell Rotary backs Goddard workshop recreation drive

Roswell Rotary Club voted to sponsor a fundraiser aiming to raise 12000 to 15000 dollars to reproduce Dr. Robert H. Goddard’s workshop at the Roswell Museum. Initial 1000 dollars was pledged with plans to place original or replica equipment in the museum workshop.

Secretary of State Alberta Miller and U S Representative Johnny Walker will speak at the New Mexico State convention of the National Association of Retired Civil Service Employees in Roswell today and Saturday. About 100 delegates and Roswell members will register at the Roswell Chamber of Commerce. Guest speakers include Clarence Tarr Emmett Gardener and Harry Sproles. Saturday morning Roswell Mayor Harris will welcome the group followed by Miller and Walker at the noon luncheon.

Water Rights in Lea Basin Judge Allows Applications

District Court Judge Samuel Montoya ruled that the New Mexico engineer's office may accept and rule on pending water-right applications in the Lea County Underground Water Basin. Thirty seven plaintiffs with existing rights had sought an injunction to stop administrative action by the state engineer in new and pending filings. Defendants named include several individuals and firms with basin water-right applications.

Man Escapes Death Twice in Ditch Cave-In

Obadiah Junior Wade, 27, a Mansfield construction worker, survived a ditch collapse for the second time in two months. He was trapped two hours while colleagues dug him out from a 15 foot deep excavation that had begun caving in a 30 foot trench.

New quadruplets born to Shiela Sklar in Manhasset

Four healthy babies born at North Shore Hospital Manhasset to Mrs Shiela Sklar 25 with husband Herbert ad man from New York City. The quadruplets two boys and a girl weigh 3 pounds 12 ounces to 5 pounds 13 ounces. The mother had fertility drug clomiphene citrate at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. She learned of the multiple birth in the fifth month after pregnancy began.

State Fair Rodeo and Horse Show Schedule
