Severe flooding in Roswell covers Main Street and South Main with water miles wide. Businesses evacuated as the Hondo river overflows and dikes fail. Homes damaged, several buildings collapse, and the town braces for continuing high water and disrupted services.
Report says heavy rain from seven to twelve last night on the Diamond A ranch twenty miles from the city, with flood fears tonight six to twelve. The manager James Sutherland says no higher rise reported, and floods may peak already then fall. Jerry Simpson returns from Illinois with W Thompson forming a new immigration partnership to run trains from Galesburg next Thursday.
Town banks shut for the day with virtually no commerce except rubber woods sales, which were exhausted early in the morning.
