Oxford Graduate Elverton Chapman Ends Life in London Hotel
Elverton R Chapman, 23, a New York City native and Oxford graduate, leapt from a Carlton Hotel third floor causing fatal injuries in the hotel vestibule. The fall narrowly missed the wife of the Mexican Minister as chaos erupted among guests and staff. Chapman, accompanied by a valet, had arrived from Paris and reportedly showed ill health before his death.

In St Louis on November 29 stockholders of the South African Boer War Exposition Company World’s Fair Concession filed a petition in circuit court requesting appointment of a receiver to control the firm’s assets. Defendants have until next Friday to show cause. Receipts up to November 23 totaled $600,000 while expenses claimed by defendants reached $700,000.
