The City Maintenance Shop at Roswell Industrial Air Center undergoes repainting under a federal public works program. Work is expected to run through March with Roswell paying half of total costs totaling 345000 dollars.
Work continues on upgrading the parking area north of the Roswell Industrial Air Center Air Terminal building as part of a Public Works Improvement Program funded by the Economic Development Administration.
Buildings at the Roswell Industrial Air Center were repainted under the Public Works Improvement Program funded by the Economic Development Administration. The B&L Mobile Homes facility and an airport hangar totaling 201000 square feet were freshened in the project.
Roswell Independent School District will pursue an appeal after a federal injunction requires releasing the names of parents in the Title I program to the Parents Advisory Council. Supt. Roger Luginbill says the case raises federal interference at a local level and a stay is sought during the appeal. The action stems from a dispute involving HEW interpretations and a challenge by PAC members.
Fifth Judicial District Attorney J Lee Cathey of Carlsbad told the Law Enforcement Appreciation dinner that drug addiction is the biggest problem in the district. He noted a high conviction rate for heroin cases, described the long work involved, and outlined a new Drug Treatment Center in Carlsbad opening December 4. He announced a Metro Narcotics Squad of six agents for Lea Eddy and Chaves counties and urged federal funding.
Twelve buildings at the Roswell Industrial Air Center are being repainted and runways sealed under a 50 50 funded project by the Public Works Improvement Program and the City of Roswell. The $345 000 program runs through March 1973 with ongoing building work and runway improvements guided by acting airport manager Carson Lowman and supervisor Jim Beatty.
The YMCA board approves a new facility for women members with 2200 square feet of remodeling. Plans include a carpeted locker area for 150 women, a steam room, whirlpool, massage area, showers, sun room, and a 700 square foot exercise room. Remodeling by Harold DeShurley begins next week with a February 1 completion target.
Secretary Laird said fewer than 10,000 draftees will be drafted in six months as Selective Service ends. President Nixon announced Elliott Richardson will be the new defense secretary and Caspar Weinberger will become secretary of Health, Education and Welfare.
A Federal Highway Administration investigation prompted by a letter to President Nixon found right of way acquisitions in Glencoe conducted legally. Officials blamed landslides and a geological fault for delays since 1971, with $30,000 in idle equipment and extra access road costs.
