Friday night crash on South Main under Roswell police investigation

A 2009 Honda Accord and a 1997 tractor trailer collided at the South Main Street and Roswell Relief Route intersection at about 6 58 p m. The Honda caught fire after hitting a street sign. One female driver was treated and released at a nearby hospital. No injuries reported for passengers or truck driver. The incident remains under investigation.

Art show attracts more than pottery in Roswell

The Pecos Valley Potters Guild opened its show at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center Friday night and by Saturday afternoon the venue was filled with vendors and customers. President Geneva Bailey called Friday night a huge success as attendees arrived before the 10 a.m. doors and the event ran until 5 p.m. with potential for an all day community turnout.

Roswell area residents dust off trumpets saxophones and clarinets to join the Roswell Community Band open to all ages and levels. The group blends students with older players, offers patient instruction and a semester concert usually at the ENMU graduation venue with instruments sometimes provided by local schools.

Nelson to be inducted into Cotton Hall of Fame

Morgan Nelson a longtime Chaves County cotton farmer will be inducted at the Cotton Hall of Fame ceremony in St. Petersburg Florida on December 10. The 95 year old East Grand Plains native known as Mr Cotton was among the first directors of the Cotton Incorporated Board and built grower support shaping policy. He served in World War II and Korea and later spent 19 years in the Air Force Reserve retiring as a colonel. Nelson also served 12 years in the New Mexico Legislature as a Democrat representative.
