Ex-Sen Mechem confesses envelope contribution in 1964

Former U S Senator Edwin L Mechem now a U S District Court judge in Albuquerque acknowledged receiving an envelope from a Gulf Oil employee during a 1964 campaign stop near Vaughn New Mexico The claim comes via deposition by Frederick A Myers a former Gulf Oil lobbyist who said he delivered sealed envelopes containing cash in several years and to multiple politicians including Fred Harris Howard Cannon and William Avery.

Two Die in Tank Blast West of Loco Hills

A tank blast near a Dave Collier well site five miles west of Loco Hills and three miles south of U S 82 killed two people. Two trucks were damaged as Artesia firemen and Loco Hills volunteers tackled the blaze for about thirty minutes.

Two Men Die In Tank Blast Near Artesia

In LOCO HILLS area, two workers died after an oil tank explosion at a pumping site five miles southwest of Loco Hills. Witnesses said a bracket for a catwalk was being welded when flames erupted and the tank exploded. Two other workers survived. OSHA investigators were to inspect for safety violations.
