Philadelphia police traced 8 year old Michael Powell after his mother reported him missing. He spent 43 dollars on toys cakes cookies a saxophone crystal sets and more at several stores while sharing his loot with another child before being found eating hot dogs in a luncheonette.
Sen. Anderson of New Mexico proposes splitting the state into two congressional districts. He argues smaller constituencies and lower vacancy costs justify the change, noting Fernandez's death reduced seniority. Fernandez and Dempsey reside in Santa Fe.
Gov. John F. Simms departed for Chicago to speak tomorrow to the annual convention of the American Petroleum Institute. He chairs the Interstate Oil Compact Commission, a group of oil and gas regulatory agencies from more than 30 states.

The year’s Lea County toll rises to 16 with the state total reaching 334.
Belgrade officials refused to comment on Budapest dispatches that ex premier Imre Nagy has taken refuge in the Yugoslav embassy. The Yugoslav press offered no details about Nagy whereabouts, reflecting cautious coverage of Hungary’s crisis.
A 12 man U N observers team moved into the Suez Zone to monitor cease fire but the first U N police airlift to Egypt was postponed due to flight schedules. Egypt agreed to receive observers. A head on collision on U S Highway 66 two miles north of Victorville killed six people. In one car were Loraine Ann Gibbs 25 Adelanto Calif Charles H Gibbs 24 Norma Jean Muse 7 and Judith Anna Gibbs 11 months. In the other car were Bobby Gene Blankernship 26 Oro Grande Calif and Arnulfo Chavez 22 Victorville.
The American Petroleum Institute heard that motor vehicles may reach 92 million by 1971, boosting highway needs and asphalt usage. Dexter Keezer of McGraw-Hill predicts cars will require 250 more gallons of gasoline yearly, while industry training and material shortages, including casing and tubing, loom large amid a steel strike.
Mrs. Andrew Shafer in Carnegie reports a deer crashed through the living room picture window as she prepared to return to bed. A U S Census Bureau study based on Roswell data finds the typical local man could earn about 151000 over a career, higher than peers in the Mountain States and New Mexico, due to longer schooling and rising productivity. Education is shown as a key income determinant, with higher schooling yielding markedly more lifetime earnings.
Albuquerque resident John M. Shows, 49, was accidentally shot in the abdomen by his hunting companion C. R. Doll during a Sunday hunt near Luna northwest of Reserve. Shows was hospitalized in Springerville, Ariz., in critical but improving condition with no charges filed pending his recovery.
France seeks a new permanent U.N. delegate to replace Bernard Cornut-Gentille who served five years as high commissioner of French West Africa.
