Two New Mexico hunters were shot during opening weekend of the big game season. Leandro Montoya 21 of Socorro was killed when his own rifle discharged as he leaned over a rock in the San Mateo Mountains near Truth or Consequences. Arturo Maynes of Deming was wounded in the chest while hunting Black Canyon northwest of Silver City. Carl Woods 42 of Floyd was seriously injured by a falling boulder in the Sacramento Mountains and airlifted to a hospital in El Paso.

Couple Wounded In Hunt Mishap Near Carlsbad
Mr and Mrs DeLoyd Landreth of Eunice were wounded on a hunting trip in the Guadalupe Mountains 65 miles from Carlsbad when a gun in their camp was knocked over and discharged. Mrs Landreth, 22, was hit in the right leg and Mr Landreth, 24, in the left ankle. Both were listed in good condition at St Francis Hospital.

Multiple Fatal Crashes Reported Across New Mexico
Two farm workers from Mexico died near Artesia when a dump truck and a pickup collided at an intersection near Atoka. Mistrial Declared in Powell Case
