Greeks press a tightening cord around thousands of Italians seeking to flee. Meanwhile British aircraft strike Nazi assemblies in Munich and other German cities including raids in Italy. Nazis continue raids on Britain.
In Gabon near Libreville, Gen Charles De Gaulle forces landed with British aid as communications with south of the equator French territories were cut. The operation followed earlier French claims of British activity near Dakar while Munich suffered a bomber raid on the beer hall where Hitler spoke.
Richard E. Manson 32, assistant U S district attorney, died in Santa Fe hospital at 3 30 a m after an illness of about a week following emergency surgery. Funeral 10 a m Monday at Sacred Heart church Clovis. body lying in state 2 30 p m Sunday at Johnson Bailey mortuary. He leaves parents Mr and Mrs Edward L Manson of Clovis a sister Miss Beth Manson widow and daughter Eloise. Born in Clovis he studied at St Edwards junior college University of Missouri and University of Texas where he earned a law degree in 1931. He had been a resident of Santa Fe four years, previously with Curry County Times editor father, and earlier in Albuquerque and Clovis law offices. He prosecuted four associates of Mrs Oliver Harriman on federal lottery conspiracy charges.
Washington November 9 The War Department pressed to keep wage and hour standards on defense projects to move rearmament forward. Assistant Secretary Robert P Patterson called for overtime pay where longer weeks are needed, while the nation expands army cantonments and bomber production. Authorities expect Britain to receive about 40 percent of next bomber output and 12 000 more aircraft orders. A Senate plan to finance farm goods sales to Britain by loosening the Johnson Act was floated as part of broader support.
Lake J. Frazier announces Charles A. Sloane national service officer of the D A V will arrive in Roswell on Tuesday November 12 and attend the local D A V meeting to assist veterans widows and dependents with Veterans Administration claim issues. Consultations available at the Legion home until noon Wednesday November 13. Service offered at no cost. Appointment can be arranged by phoning Frazier at 89.
Paul Wilmot chairs a campaign still about 1400 dollars short of the ten thousand dollar goal. He appeals for immediate contributions to fund Salvation Army Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts work for the next year. Members listed include Ed J Williams S P Johnson Jr Floyd Childress T H Boswell. Contributions may be sent to Carl Bird or to the Chamber of Commerce or First National Bank.

At the Texas Aggie and Southern Methodist football game in Dallas, a temporary south end zone bleacher holding about 1500 collapsed during play. At least 21 people were treated for injuries, many to the legs, as ambulances and stretchers arrived and the game paused briefly.
Elmer Cravens pleaded not guilty before Pat ONeill J P to a kidnapping charge involving 7 year old James Edward Martin. Preliminary hearing date not set. Bond fixed at 1000 dollars. Cravens was returned to Roswell by Sheriff Young from Poteau Oklahoma. The charge was filed by the boy's father William H. Martin. The boy remains in Oklahoma.
Sydney reports that the 5883 ton American freighter City of Rayville blew up and sank off Cape Otway near Melbourne. 37 of 38 crew were saved. one missing, third engineer James Bryan of Norfolk, Virginia. Sabotage suspected by some, but naval minister William Hughes says mines likely caused the explosion.
Chaves County Selective Service Board started sending questionnaires to registrants. Questionnaires go to those with Order Numbers 1 through 60, printed with serial numbers. Respondents must complete and return in prepaid envelopes within five days to aid classification into Class 1 or deferred groups.
New Mexico voters allocate 59 Democrats and 14 Republicans to the next legislature with a possible split session of two 30 days instead of one 60 day session. Unofficial returns show 38 Democrats and 31 Republicans in the House and 21 Democrats with 3 Republicans in the Senate, detailing district by district makeups and names in the chamber.
British bombs hit Munich shortly after Adolf Hitler finished a confident beer hall address marking the 17th anniversary of the beer hall putsch. Berlin sources say Hitler claimed Germany prepared for the future and strong enough to meet any foe as RAF raids arrived, forcing citizens to shelter in cellars.
Co M Richards a former Roswell resident died at his home in Nevada Missouri aged 88. Word came via E H Hicks. He lived in Roswell for years working as a piano tuner and was related to Mrs R S Hamilton and Beatrice Sears. Burial in Nevada at the family cemetery.
New York prosecutors say Thomas Conroy confessed to throttling ten year old Genevieve Connolly and cremating her body after fearing she would tell her mother he had kissed her. Investigators searched furnace ashes for bone fragments to prove corpus delicti as the district attorney weighs charging options including kidnapping with the death penalty.
The Armistice Day soap box derby, sponsored by the American Legion, is set for 10 a.m. next Monday on the hill at North Richardson. The Merchants Association closing committee votes to observe November 21 as Thanksgiving as proclaimed by Gov Miles. It also notes Institute homecoming on November 28 and urges stores to grant employees time off for the football game.

New Mexico shows fair tonight and Sunday with increasing clouds the north and occasional snow in higher elevations Sunday afternoon. Colorado experiences partly cloudy skies with snow in the northern mountains, turning cooler in the east and north Sunday. Arizona remains mostly fair with little change in temperature.
Stores and public offices here will be closed next Monday. The mist is Day. The courthouse and city hall will both be closed.
Washington reports unofficial tallies show Roosevelt leading Willkie with 26,361,762 to 21,876,719 votes from 120,620 of 127,245 units. Total votes cast reach 48,238,481 with final near 50,000,000 and Roosevelt's plurality at 4,485,043. Electoral votes remain 449 for Roosevelt and 82 for Willkie.
