Marilyn Holmes reports at Dexter High School during the Harvest Festival hosted by the Roswell Chamber of Development and Commerce. About 1,000 farmers and ranchers enjoyed a free meal and entertainment as 4-H members were recognized.
The New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed the 1969 Rio Arriba County Courthouse raid convictions of Reies Lopez Tijerina founder of the Alianza. It adopted the Appeals Court ruling confirming the verdicts for assault and false imprisonment, with concurrent sentences of 2 to 10 years and 1 to 5 years. Grounded on double jeopardy claims, the high court ruled the different victims justified separate prosecutions.
Aurelia Suarez was named Artesia High School homecoming queen at a pep assembly held at 2 p.m. Collette Cauhape served as maid of honor with junior and sophomore attendants. Pregame ceremonies begin at 7:15 p.m. in Bulldog Bowl before Artesia faces Roswell High in the 1973 homecoming game at 7:30 p.m.
Sean O’Neil of Roswell represented Glover Packing Co at the Harvest Festival staged at Dexter High School. The Roswell Chamber of Development and Commerce sponsored the annual event as thanks from local businessmen to the agriculture community.
A Catholic newspaper in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe has ceased publication due to rising costs and uncertain subscriber support. Editor Eileen Stanton said New Day assets totaled 1275 with debts of 6975 to National Catholic News Service and All Church Press.

A senior defense official said U S war stocks were seriously depleted by shipments to Israel. The drain could push Nixon to seek more than the 79 billion dollar defense budget for 1974. The official noted underestimation of basic ammunition on hand for future crises.
