A report from York May 29 notes Thomas B. s pleads not guilty to eighteen indictments including perjury. Bail set at 1000 dollars. The case involves private documents and the Harriman Webster letter amid other Pittsburg area proceedings.
Southern Pacific Sunset Express from San Francisco was three miles east of Bradley when it derailed. an unknown man who had ridden the train was missing or fleeing, and the fireman suffered severe scalding injuries.
Colorado Springs reports snow in the mountains and Cripple Creek receiving several inches of snow yesterday.
May 30 from Ton China reports a severe engagement between provincial troops and rebels. Government forces won, with over a hundred rebels killed. The rebel leader was captured along with flags and ammunition.
Cloudcroft New Mexico May 28 A company section house at Mountain Park burned to the ground. Section foreman J J Kelley sleeping in the house suffered severe burns and is in Alamogordo Hospital in serious condition.
In the Boston Jarilla mine shaft at 40 feet depth ore dyke and strong copper indications emerge. Standard Mines orders machinery including a gasoline engine and hoist as three drifts in Luck shaft advance east, west, and northwest in ore. R G Mullen, a leading developer, suffers a breakdown as district progress draws builders and capital to the camp.
A report from El Paso says the Rio Grande near Alfalfa shifted its channel toward the Mexican side and away from the American shore, moving about 400 to 500 yards in recent days. The alteration occurred roughly three days ago and was observed in the Don Porfirio Diaz area.
When river level rose, a bend was cut across creating a new deeper channel that threatens the county road. Uprooted trees and brush drift downstream as authorities fear further shifts may reclaim old beds while residents worry about cross border access and property rights along the Rio Grande.
In El Paso Texas on May 29 the Southern Pacific reports hot boxes on freight cars due to packing being stolen for kindling. Tramps remove journal packing to build fires in jungle camps along the tracks, causing transit delays. Superintendent McGovern warns trainmen to inspect cars for missing packing to reduce hot boxes.
Sheriff C L Ballard of Chaves County Sheriff J D Christopher of Eddy County and Lieutenant Collier of the Territorial Mounted Police took prisoners to the penitentiary on Wednesday via the autuon route to Santa Fe. The inmates were Jim T Edwards Lon Reynolds Jake Neatherlin and J S Blackwell the first four convicted this term and the two latter witnesses brought from the penitentiary.
Rev. Charles E. Lukens former pastor and head of the Children's Home Society of Arizona and New Mexico has opened his headquarters in Albuquerque. The city was chosen for central location and easier railroad access to the territory served by the society.
Abraham Reuf appeared before Superior Judge Dunne to be sentenced for extorting $1,175 from Joseph Malfantini owner of the Delmonicos restaurant. He pleaded guilty a fortnight ago and the sentence was postponed two weeks on the motion of the assistant district attorney. Theodore V. Halsey, agent for the telephone company, indicted on bribery of Supervisors, was arraigned and given until Saturday to plead.
Jim West, convicted of receiving stolen horses and sentenced to four years in the penitentiary, has been granted an appeal to the Supreme Court. He has posted a $4,000 bond.
The S. C. Smith versus Darius Hicks case ended Tuesday with a plaintiff win of 362 dollars 55 cents. On Wednesday court heard Sherman and Cummins against Hicks and sent the case to the jury at three oclock.
The Independent wagon from The Superior Refinery Co. roams Roswell streets every weekday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. It urges consumers to stop the wagon and buy its goods, promising action if customers show support. Phone 412.
The Record Herald reports that by summer's end over 200000 unorganized laborers and clerks on Western railroads will receive a voluntary wage hike averaging ten percent.

Alvin K. Mott died suddenly of heart failure at his confectionery store in the Oklahoma building at 10 30 this morning. He was sixty years old last December 8 and had not been seriously ill recently. The death came as a surprise to his family and customers.
A Royal Engineers ballistic balloon piloted by Lieutenants Caulfield and Leak was launched from Aldershot Camp May 28 and picked up by a fishing smack in the English Channel. The fate of the two officers was initially unknown, but a later wireless dispatch from Sicily Islands reported both lieutenants reached the station there in safety.

A May 24 letter from Roswell requests a territorial New Mexico map from the New Mexican, noting an immigrant’s journey from New York via Old Mexico. The writer, signing as Pp. Vandenbergh, says he will stay in the territory for forty years and asks for government maps.
It is announced Captain George Curry will not sail from Manila until July 9 or possibly July 15. If he leaves on the first date he would reach Washington by August 15 and Santa Fe by August 25. If delayed to the later date Santa Fe would be reached around September 1.
The El Paso and Southwestern railroad will build a 170 mile water pipe line from the Rio Bonito head waters to Carrizozo after acquiring the Rock Island line between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa. The project costs about one and a half million dollars and requires diverting Rio Bonito waters westward across the Sierra Blanca range to supply engine and other uses.
The Susquehanna Iron and Steel company plant and properties in Lancaster will be sold under foreclosure tomorrow. A minimum price of $400,000 is set, with a $300,000 mortgage due on the first of the month. Receivers say the business cannot be profitable without the steel trust.
R E Muney survived a robbery morning fall and has regained consciousness. Doctors report no broken bones though severe bruising and a lung injury are noted, with no expected permanent complications.

Pittsburg May 30 Thos W Harvey former teller of Enterprise National Bank Allegheny Pa was found guilty in 33 counts for making false entries and not guilty in three counts charging misappropriation of funds. The jury was out 12 hours.
The president issues a proclamation establishing a sixty foot wide reservation along the entire northern border of Mexico including California Arizona and New Mexico to suppress smuggling after the abolition of the Zona Libre free zone.

Police arrest Charles Cordes John McDonald and William F Burton, leaders of the Car Men's Union, for interfering with trolley wires. Silver City New Mexico May 30 The leep arroya dividing Silver City into two sections is said to contain gold in payable quantities. At least one syndicate led by William Linx of Milwaukee is constructing a dry wash placer seven miles below the city and if profitable will expand mining. The ditch that harmed property is now of some value to residents.
Three Chinese restaurant operators Mar Chew Yee How and Yee Jim were arrested in El Paso Texas on a Food Inspector charge of selling adulterated milk. Each posted a $25 bond to appear in police court at 5 o clock.
Last night’s northbound train arrived few minutes late and proved to be a dummy from Amarillo. The regular train was held behind a freight wreck in Oklahoma so long it was abandoned. Tonight’s train is reported thirty minutes late.
