In Los Angeles on May 27 T. S. Inverham, assistant to the Grand Chief Engineer of the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, collapsed and died at his desk from a heart attack during the convention in the city.
The attending physician said Postmaster J. B. Matthews remains seriously ill and about the same this afternoon.
The President plans to leave Washington tomorrow night for Gettysburg to deliver the Memorial Oration on Monday. He will speak in the town where the historic battlefield and national memory converge as part of the commemorative events.

District Judge Smart refused the Santa Fe railway a permanent injunction against Ottawa machinists on May 28. He noted no evidence of intent to cause disturbance and dismissed the bid as unwarranted.

W. R. Cummins known as Red Hoss Cummins and Uncle Billy Formwalt announce candidacies for Justice of the Peace in the new district. Both seek the constable seat but refuse to name opponents. Uncle Billy plans to run on the Prohibition ticket and vows to pursue Red Hoss.
After weeks of delay a heavy rotary shoe was dropped and then hoisted by drill. Workmen finish pounding it up and the Hagerman artesian well advances about six hundred feet.
Dr C H Nelson, who moved to Seven Rivers near McMillan, bought land for 8000 dollars and recently offered it at 15000. A buyer appeared for 15000 but Nelson refused the sale. The note playfully wonders if Pecos Valley investment beats dentistry. Also, the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the First Methodist church will hold a mite social at Mrs Mary C Cobe's home on Friday May 27 from 730 to 10 pm. all are invited.
Memorial Day leads to bank closures in the city with no business transactions. An elderly widow seeks a housekeeper and a young man caretaker for 15 dollars monthly plus board, via P O Box 113 Lewis Fort. Classified notes offer a Smith Premier No 2 piano and a high grade bicycle for sale and cleaning services from Roswell Panitorium with delivery by telephone.
Drilling crews at St Muno and Ratcliffe are advancing the artesian well for Walters and Shaver jit McMillan. The casing stands at 7 percent with the drill at 200 feet, aiming for 600 to 760 feet to reach the expected large flow. Charles L. Morrison and James Miller returned from a Wichita trip where they received Scottish Rite Masonry degrees and were pleased with the reception.
Good rains have fallen with more on the way. The Institute gauge records 0.45 inches in the last two days, signaling continued wet weather across the area.

The Board of County Commissioners of Chaves County creates Precinct No. 7 by dividing Precinct No. 1 south of Second Standard Parallel in Roswell. An election for Justice of the Peace and Constable will be held June 7, 1904, at the Main Street machine shop and in the Fourth Ward, with polls 9 am to 6 pm. Judges are J. G. Hedgcoxe Fred Roth W. C. Burrus. clerks H. J. Wall J. J. Jones.
