J C Noel of Hope New Mexico arrived in the city claiming he had been robbed. He caused a disturbance in a hotel at four in the morning and was arrested by Mar Rascoe. Noel said he lost 150 dollars. Later William Bulle known as Little Billy Bulle was arrested for robbing Noel.
Baltimore May 27 Jewey Cooke the champion welterweight of England and South Africa will fight American champion Joe Gans in a fifteen round bout at the Eureka Athletic club. Gans is in good shape and confident to dispose of the Englishman with little difficulty.
A new Precinct No 7 is created in Chaves County by dividing Precinct No 1. The area lies south of Second Street in Roswell. An election for Justice of the Peace and Constable will be held June 7 1904 at the J Q Cummins machine shop Main Street Roswell. Polls open 9 am to 6 pm with judges Hedgcoxe Roth Burrus and clerks Wall Jones.
In Las Vegas New Mexico three Tafoya family members are dead from poisoning and seven neighbors who visited them are ill. Arsenic was found in the Tafova water barrel though doctors say the symptoms differ from arsenic poisoning. The barrel had been used for mixing chemicals, a detail now considered unlikely to be the cause.
The Presbyterian general assembly of the United States approved union with the Cumberland Presbyterian church by a vote so nearly unanimous that it was not counted. The historic decision was announced in Buffalo New York on May 27.
Don Jaime de Bourbon son of Don Carlos and claimant to the Spanish throne was thrown from his horse in the Far East on Thursday May 26. He suffered no serious injuries and remains under observation.
The Woman's Club met at St Andrew's Hall last Saturday afternoon with Mrs Earle leading an engaging program. Col Earle read Whittier's Centennial Hymn and discussed Our Country as a World Power. He closed with Clarence Stedman's Hymn to the West. The next meeting will feature annual elections and plans for next year's work. Members are urged to attend on June 4 at St Andrew's Hall.

Two men died in a fire that destroyed the Farmers' hotel in Lawton Oklahoma today. John Brannon and Patrick McCabe were killed both section foremen. Two other men were injured in the blaze.
