Veterans honored at Roswell Memorial Day services
Two services in Roswell honored veterans and fallen heroes with a 8 a.m. prayer breakfast at Elks Lodge 969 featuring a POW/MIA table and mayor Dennis Kintigh as speaker. At 10 a.m. South Park Cemetery held a Memorial Day ceremony led by John Taylor, Vietnam veteran and Daily Record columnist.

Cadets Commissioned as U S Army Second Lieutenants at NMMI
Twenty four former cadets at New Mexico Military Institute were sworn in as second lieutenants in a Friday Army ROTC Commissioning Ceremony at Pearson Auditorium. Maj. Gen. James B. Laster delivered the commissioning address, stressing responsibility and global threats while praising both Marines and the Army and thanking cadets’ parents.

Carlsbad man killed in two vehicle crash
A 38 year old Carlsbad man died Saturday after his pickup was struck by a westbound Mack truck at the US 62 180 and NM 176 intersection. Pennington was ejected and died at Lea Regional Medical Center. The El Paso driver, Refugio Soto Ochoa, 47, was not injured.

Seniors at the J.O.Y. Center participate in EnhanceFitness three times weekly with free access funded by the New Mexico Senior Olympics. The 50 plus class emphasizes stretching balance flexibility and strength with sessions led by Jan Melton and includes pre and post fitness tests to track progress. The program earned the National Senior Games Association Innovative Program Award and aims to boost independence and well being for older adults.
