Stableful of Horses Houseful of Women at Ruidoso Downs

Ray Seeley brings 28 horses from Blythe California to race this season at Ruidoso Downs. His household includes his wife Emma Jean and four internationally sourced college girls he has unofficially adopted as daughters. The entourage also includes son Tony, grooms, a Pomeranian, and a tortoise shell cat as the races begin.

Closest Raid to Hanoi by 9 U.S. Planes Hits Quang Soui Barracks

Nine U.S. Air Force planes struck military barracks within 55 miles of Hanoi, the closest raid to the capital so far. The assault levelled 37 buildings in the Quang Soui area and included a Phuoc Qui ammunition depot strike. An American adviser and 55 government troops were killed near Ben Cat in an ambush, with eight missing and seven wounded among Vietnamese and U.S. forces.

Francisco Caamano Deno reportedly favor renewal while heavy fighting erupts near the National Palace and between U S Marines and rebel units. The UN calls for a permanent halt and Catholic leaders urge a provisional government for peace.

Body of Johnny Carlton Found After Wreck Near City Hall

The body of Johnny Leroy Carlton of Lovington was found at 3 30 am Saturday after his pickup ran off School House Road about 200 yards west of city hall. He was pinned in the vehicle and died in a likely accident. An autopsy was ordered and the cause of death was not immediately clear. Carlton, a rodeo personality, was often seen as a performing clown in southwestern arenas.

A U S Marine spokesman accused the Viet Cong of freezing glass slivers into contaminated water and attempting to sell it as ice to thirsty Marines. He also said the Communists tried to put acid in soda pop, but the acid ate through a bottle cap before sale.

Couple Marries in Klan Wedding in North Carolina

In Farmville North Carolina a 27 year old body shop operator and a 37 year old divorcee wed in a Ku Klux Klan ceremony on a dusty corn field attended by about 5000 spectators. The groom James Earl Taylor wore a white robe and cap while the bride Bessie Irene Tyson wore a blue dress. The Klan minister wore a black robe with a white cross. A robed procession and security guards with Confederate flags accompanied the event. The couple plan to live near Farmville and the march through town drew sharp taunts from a local police officer as Klansmen urged silence.

RHS to Award Honors Tuesday

Roswell High School senior counselor Mrs. Sarah L. Beamer announced the annual honors and awards assembly will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the high school gym. All parents and patrons are invited to attend as honor graduates valedictorian salutatorian and scholarship recipients are recognized.

Alfred Leyba Faces Surgery After Patrol Car Crash

Alfred Leyba a former state policeman from Roswell remains hospitalized at Bernalillo County Indian Hospital in Albuquerque and will undergo surgery Monday morning after a patrol car collision with a horse in November 1963. A family spokesman cites a brain surgeon who plans to use a rare machine to possibly improve Leyba's nerve control while standing.

United States vows force to bar Dominican junta attack

US officials warned that American troops could use force if needed to stop the Dominican junta from attacking rebels in Santo Domingo. The pledge came as junta leader Brig. Gen. Antonio Imbert Bar­rera rejected a 24 hour medical aid truce and discussions continued at the UN and OAS.

Installation Of Officers Held By Sertoma Club

Six new officers and a new board of directors were installed at a Roswell Sertoma Club dinner and meeting at the Roswell Inn. Gene Benson of Laramie was guest speaker and conducted the installation. Officers included Anise Bellamah president and five vice presidents plus secretary-treasurer and sergeant at arms with a slate of directors.
