Cadets Edge Browns 1 0 In Pitchers Battle At Institute

Hester pitched brilliantly for the Institute, allowing only three hits while Albuquerque’s Gallegos held the Cadets to four. Clancy doubled for Albuquerque. Brail and Overlock contributed infield speed for Roswell. The game ended 1 to 0 in favor of the Cadets with Hester striking out nine. Attendance was light. next games set for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cadet Doyle won the medal for best drilled cadet with Cooley second. track events featured vaulting won by Cadet Bender with a 9 foot mark and broad jump victory.

Roswell Doctor Narrowly Escapes Des Moines Platform Collapse

Dr. C. E. Lukens of Roswell Presbyterian Church was listed as injured after a platform collapse at a Presbyterian General Assembly photo event in Des Moines. He says the fall occurred as the wooden supports failed, throwing delegates to the ground and causing panic among about fifteen hundred seated attendees. He reports his escape was miraculous and confirms he was aiding injured delegates, not harmed himself.

Boiler Explosion at New York Glucose Plant Kills Six

A boiler explosion at the New York Glucose Company plant in Shadyside New Jersey killed six men and injured many others. The four story brick building was wrecked and rescuers battled flames to reach workers. Initial reports of fatalities were corrected. investigations showed no deaths from the blaze beyond the initial six, with several rescued from burning debris. A separate fire in Ogden Utah destroyed half a block of business properties on Washington Avenue causing about 350000 dollars in losses.
