Jake Roy Allen, 41, a cook at Indian Grill, disappeared Monday evening after a drinking party along Spring River east of the railroad bridge as rain began. Police and sheriff's posse searches failed to find him amid muddy ground. Allen, 5 ft 7 to 5 ft 11, 160 to 165 pounds, brown hair and blue eyes, was last seen in blue slacks and brown oxfords. officers urged anyone with information to contact the department.

Three Freight Cars Overturn in Lake Near Lovington
A Texas New Mexico Railway freight train traveling from Big Spring to Lovington derailed after a flood weakened roadbed near Lovington. Three cars toppled into a shallow lake, carrying oil well cement in two cars and general merchandise in one. No injuries were reported, and crews worked to repair about 150 to 200 feet of track.
