In San Francisco on May 18 Abraham Ruef neared collapse while in the grand jury room, accompanied by Elisor Bigzy. Ruef declined further comment on Mayor Mitz’s claim that he lied about paying bribes, stating his oathbound statement could be depended upon.
Madrid May 18 The baptism of Prince Alfonso of the Asturias eldest son of the king and heir to the Spanish throne took place in the private chapel of the palace at noon today.
In Washington on May 18 Gaston C. Phillips a prominent clubman shot and seriously wounded Frank G. Mackaboy a carriage driver he had been with overnight after an argument at the Ar Hotel. They returned to the hotel in Phillips auto and the driver claimed a commission for services as a guide.
Annie James hosted about a dozen couples from the Southern M. E. Sunday School at 610 N Pennsylvania Avenue last night. Guests enjoyed games amusements and refreshments with several musical pieces rendered by Miss James, all reporting a very good time.

In Chicago on May 17 William McClintock, a retired capitalist, was killed when his automobile collided with a wagon. He shielded his wife from a shaft, dying almost instantly at the scene.
J. Warner Mills, noted lawyer and author of many legal texts, died yesterday after illness. He had completed corrections on his latest irrigation manual before his condition worsened.
The New Mexico Board of Pharmacy will meet in Roswell on Monday and Tuesday at the invitation of local member Gary Moore. Members arrive Sunday by automobile route. Expected attendees include A. J. Fischer and his wife from Albuquerque and E. G.
Wem resident Goodby aged 34 died Friday morning at 10 30 at his east Fourth street home after a six day illness.
A man who arrived in Roswell six months ago from Brownwood Texas died after illness with pneumonia. He lost a limb and had not worked since coming to Roswell. Remains will be shipped back to Brownwood for burial.
Class No 7 of the Christian Sunday school taught by T A Richardson was entertained by Lockridge Wilson at his Alameda Heights home last Thursday night. Two young people led games and amusements, followed by ice cream cake and strawberries.

Elliott tied for second and won the all around medal. Deemer led in 220 yard hurdles and 440 yard run with multiple top places. Stoneking, Redding, and others earned second and third finishes across discus, hammer, hurdles, and distance events. Officials included referee J M Miller and judges Paul Vernon Southworth.
New York May 17 A bystander Harry Marshall was killed and another man wounded during a Hoboken strike incident. The shooter, Benjamin Vincent, said to work for a detective agency, was wounded while resisting arrest.
The State Department announced Thos. J. O'Brien of Michigan, U S Minister to Copenhagen, will become ambassador to Japan in September upon Luke E. Wright of Tennessee retiring. No successor to O'Brien in Copenhagen has been selected.
