NMMI Cadet Wins Highest Honor and ROTC Scholarship

Third Class Cadet Sgt. J C Sylvester Johnson IV of Roswell will graduate with highest honors at New Mexico Military Institute exercises Saturday morning. He is among four cadets awarded four year U S Army scholarships for advanced ROTC study. Col Robert J Levitt represents the military science department in the ceremony.

Roswell Man Shot Dead on West Alameda Street

Jesse J. Trujillo, 24, was found with a chest gunshot wound on West Alameda Street and died at St. Marys Hospital. Johnny L. Chavez, 21, was arrested at his Hendricks Street home and charged with murder. he is jailed without bond awaiting arraignment.

Montoya will arrive in Roswell between 4 30 and 5 p m Friday to present two Montoya Scholarships to the top Spanish surnamed students at Roswell High School and Goddard High School. A Friday 7 30 a.m. business meeting breakfast and an 11 45 a.m. alumni luncheon at Roswell Inn feature awards, new board members, and scholarship announcements. Rear Adm. Kleindienst Pleads Guilty In ITT Hearing Probe

Former Attorney General Richard G. Kleindienst pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for refusing to answer questions about the ITT antitrust case during his 1972 Senate confirmation hearings. Judge Hart set expedited sentencing, with possible penalties from a $100 fine and one month in jail to up to $1,000 and a year, suspendable in lieu of imprisonment.
