The Roswell City Council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Convention Center to review the FY 2022 23 budget audit and its corrective action plan plus a presentation of audit findings. A second resolution covers the Open Meetings Act timing and council committees including Legal Finance and Infrastructure.
Charges against 38 year old Eric Contreras for the March deadly shootout that killed 21 year old Nicolas Montoya were dismissed without prejudice after a April 26 preliminary hearing found insufficient evidence to bind over. The case could be refiled if new evidence emerges. The charges included first degree murder tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a felon.
A New Mexico court blocked a state rule requiring a five day school week with 180 instructional days. Judge Dustin K. Hunter granted a temporary order barring the Public Education Department from enforcing the calendar or budgets, pending a Monday show cause hearing. Stan Rounds of the School Superintendents Association welcomed the ruling and sought extension into an injunction. Government spokesman Michael Coleman declined comment.
Roswell’s Public Safety Committee will meet at 4 p.m. at City Hall to discuss an amped agenda. The panel may advise extending the American Medical Response ambulance contract by one year at about 411 333 dollars per month totaling nearly 1.348 million annually while the city pursues its own ambulance service, funded by five sixteenths of See MEETS, Page A3.
