City to Survey Drainage Costs for Possible Bond

Roswell city engineers began a survey to determine the cost of comprehensive drainage improvements. If costs justify, voters may be asked to approve a bond issue funded flood control work. Mayor Hall said the bond election would occur before the new fiscal year if desired, with a possible special council meeting later this month. The survey aims to use Army engineers data from last summer’s Roswell thorough survey.

Asplund to Speak at Taxpayers Assn Meeting in Roswell

Rupert F. Asplund, longtime director of the Taxpayers Association of New Mexico, will address Friday's 7:30 pm Chaves County Taxpayers Association meeting in the district courtroom on the proposed new state office building. Terrific Blast at Varnish Plant Wrecks Building

A powerful explosion at the I. Du Pont plant in west Philadelphia injured three workers. A 54 year old man, John King, was burned as liquid resin caught fire, leaving his clothing burned and possibly leading to leg amputations. Fire crews doused flames with steam. a 50 by 100 foot building was demolished.

German Seamen Taken By the U S

More than 100 German seamen were taken into custody in a secret pre-dawn roundup in New York and suburbs. Immigration officials say the action, ordered by Attorney General Jackson, aims to bring 160 sailors into official custody for overstaying leaves. Officers searched rooms and hotels starting at 4 p.m. EST, with plans to send detainees to an inland camp in the west.

Fine Program At Opening Session Of Tourist School

Flood pictures to be shown at Yucca theater

Ted Jones manager of the Yucca and Pecos theatres will show movie pictures of the recent Sunday flood from the Hondo River at the Yucca. A special preview revealed shots of flooded streets the Hondo at high tide water through Cahoon Park and skid frolics in streets and along the stream.

C C Renfro aged 39 died at his home 1813 North Lea Avenue Roswell this morning at nine o'clock after a period of ill health He was born November 9 1902 in Texas and had lived in Roswell nine months coming from Vernon Texas He is survived by his wife and one daughter Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Talmage Mortuary in charge
