State sales tax collections for April totalled 326595.33, a gain of 24409.11 over April last year and 9953 over March receipts, while use and severance tax revenue fell. The drop stems from a $22000 payment from El Paso Natural Gas in April 1940 and a large March check from Chino mines. Severance tax receipts last month were 57353.97, down 4.28 percent from April 1940 and about one percent from March.
