Four year old drowns in Haley irrigation ditch
Leon Owen Hopper Jr., formerly of Roswell, drowned Monday afternoon in an irrigation ditch at Haley Arizona two miles downstream from the accidental fall. His body was brought to Roswell and services will be held tomorrow with Avis Wiggins of the Church of Christ in charge. Burial at South Park, Talmage Mortuary arranging. He is survived by his parents two sisters and a brother.

Cortez Theater At Hot Springs Demolished By Blast
In Hot Springs New Mexico on May 1 a blast wrecked the Cortez Theater causing injuries to Martinez Silva and Albert McCormick while Frank Silva sustained minor injuries. The one story brick building on Main Street was blasted by fumes from paint and turpentine in the basement ignited by a fan motor spark. Firefighters controlled the fire in a half hour. The theater, owned by A C White, was completely demolished. Roswell airport defense project payroll runs about 8500 dollars monthly with 123 workers including 84 on payroll and 39 equipment operators. The work includes 39 trucks and multiple machines under W P A and contractor Armstrong and Armstrong.
