Early trout season opens statewide with accessibility issues
Trout season begins Sunday across New Mexico one month earlier than usual. Many waters are closed due to inaccessible roads and slushy ice, but open lakes such as Bonito, McAllister, and Santa Cruz offer stocked fishing. Local officials warn of heavy runoff, murky water, and variable access, with year round openings starting this year.
