A special meeting for Vietnam veterans is set for 7 p.m. on April 3 at Ingalls Memorial Home in Roswell, inviting veterans and supporters to gather for discussion and recognition.
Ayatollah Khalkali said held Americans will face trial when Parliament convenes and convicted spies will go to prison. Clergy urged a mass march to the U.S. Embassy to protest the Shah's flight to Egypt and accused the United States of pressuring Iran, with Cairo’s asylum stance igniting anger.

Chaves County Sheriff Billy Carpenter announced his bid for re election subject to the Democratic primary on June 3. A long time law enforcement officer Carpenter, 50, has worked from Amarillo to Roswell and Artesia before returning to the Roswell area and taking over the sheriff s office in 1973. He cites jail modernization and rehabilitation programs as top priorities and vows to involve mental health professionals in prisoner assessment and treatment. Carpenter and his wife Nona reside north of Roswell and have three children.
Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi arrived in Cairo from Panama for surgery on an enlarged spleen and will make his exile home in Egypt, said President Anwar Sadat. Doctors described his illness as serious but not as bad as feared, and the Shah appeared gaunt yet determined during a brief meeting with Sadat at Maadi hospital.
Magistrate John W. McLemore of Serenata Drive has been appointed presiding judge, replacing L O Thompson who resigned from the post but remains a magistrate. Thompson cited passing the role to McLemore as appropriate after years in the position and said he plans to retire in about three years.
The White House dismissed the U S Olympic Committee Athletes Advisory Council idea to compete in Moscow without attending ceremonies or medal events. Aide called the plan unacceptable and offered no further details.
The Workers' Daily reports China produced about 10.9 million bicycles last year and that bicycles remain the main private transport. Private cars are nonexistent, bikes are rationed with license plates, and new models include lightweight designs gears and small motorized versions.
